It is on the US Department of Commerce's Entity List, meaning American companies cannot supply it with technology without a license. Huawei routers are not authorized for sale in the United States and cannot receive FCC equipment authorization. Any Huawei router in a US home was purchased either before restrictions took effect, through gray market channels, or abroad. Huawei is state-linked and has been determined by Congress to pose an unacceptable national security risk. Using a Huawei router in the US is not illegal for consumers, but it carries significant risk and receives zero firmware support.
